Why I Don’t Accept Insurance

I understand that the cost of therapy is an important consideration, and choosing not to accept insurance is not a decision I take lightly. There are several reasons why I’ve chosen to operate outside of insurance networks, all rooted in my commitment to providing the highest quality care for my clients.

1. Greater Privacy and Confidentiality
When you use insurance, your mental health diagnosis, treatment plan, and session notes may become part of your permanent medical record. By not billing insurance, your information stays between us, allowing for a higher level of privacy and discretion.

2. Freedom from Diagnosis Requirements
Most insurance companies require a formal mental health diagnosis in order to reimburse for therapy sessions. This can sometimes lead to labeling that doesn’t truly reflect your experience or goals. In private pay therapy, you can seek support without needing to meet diagnostic criteria or carry a diagnosis that may follow you in other areas of life.

3. Flexibility in Treatment
Insurance often limits the type, frequency, or duration of therapy sessions. By not working within those restrictions, I’m able to tailor our work to your individual needs, not just what’s covered by a policy.

4. Focus on Quality, Not Quotas
By staying independent from insurance networks, I can keep my caseload at a level that allows me to be fully present and responsive to each client without the administrative pressures that come with insurance billing.

If you have questions or concerns about affordability, please feel free to reach out. I’m happy to discuss options and help you make the best decision for your care.
